100 days ’til Speedweek 2010 at the Bonneville Salt Flats Starts
Bonneville Salt Flats: Speed Week 2010 Preview:
…ok, ok, for those counting (who, me?) its actually 100 Days, 19 Hours, 34 Minutes and…wait for it, wait for it…53 seconds!
For everything about Bonneville and Speed Week, check this out:
Bonneville Salt Flats – Speed Week, Records and Pictures
Or, see for yourself at the LandRacing.com homepage, where they have a countdown clock for Speed Week. It’s going year ’round for those with Salt Fever.
Here’s a little taste of the Salt from Speed Week 2009. Dig this flamed 5 window coupe hot rod and yes, oh yes, a Studebaker Avanti. That’s a teaser for a feature coming up on another certain Avanti you guys will love.
Speed Week is THE coolest car show around!
One of the great “unofficial” events at Speed Week is the first 2 nights (the night before races start is night #1), there is a big gathering of all those racers, crew and hot rodders who’ve made the trip out. It goes down at the Nugget Casino (across the street from Montego Bay Casino as you can see in the pic above) in Wendover (about 5 miles away from “lands end”). It’s a great time to get everyone in one place and meet new people and just hang out.
According to SCTA-BNI.org, Speed Week 2009 had 504 vehicles (cars and motorcycles), 3110 runs down the Salt where 178 records were broken! It is action packed for sure!
Hope to see you guys at the world famous and historic Bonneville Salt Flats August 14-20. 100 days to go!
See you on the Salt!

We’re coming from Australia for SpeedWeek, and a few other things as well… We visited San Jose and San Francisco last year in August but weren’t able to make it to the salt, so we’re making up for it this year by flying in to San Francisco, picking up the 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood I bought before we headed over last time and heading down to LA, then after a few days there making our way through Death Valley to Vegas, pausing for a few days and then via the Grand Canyon and Salt Lake City, heading on to Wendover and Bonneville… After Bonneville we’re heading to Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park and Bakersfield for the August ANRA meeting before returning to San Jose for a few weeks around the Bay area.
We’re staying at The Red Garter and planning on getting on down to The Nugget at night… Also have some friends staying at the bend in the road, so will have to get out there for a few drinks one night too…
Hey mate! Thanks for commenting. That sounds like an awesome trip you have planned. Got any pics of the ’70 Caddy? I’ll keep an eye out for it.
Party at the bend in the road, I’ll bring my root beer. ;)
I’ll try and get a ride page set up for it here in the next few days.. In the meantime, there’s a few shots of it in the gallery of pics from our last trip here:

and a write up on that trip here:

You’ll know the Caddy if you see it, it’s a Fleetwood 9 seater formal sedan, in Sable Black, with mexican blankets for seat covers… :)
FIL, very nice photos from your trip. Can’t wait to see your shots from B’ville. Thanks for sharing the forum links with us. Just read through your trip report. We’ll have to have some of your stuff on MyRideisMe.com.
It’s cool to see people not from the US visit and share what they think.
