2011 Tour Begins with Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, Infineon Raceway

Los Angeles (May 16, 2011) –  The Big Boys are back June 3-5, 2011, at the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, being held at Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, CA. Bring the entire family for a day of incredible racing with the Historic Trans AM Racing Group. Featuring the original cars, the excitement and the noise you remember from the late ‘60s and early 70s Trans Am series. This exhibition race will bring back memories of the glory days of road racing. The original series drove auto makers to go faster, be louder and better than their competitors. Detroit’s battle cry of “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” correctly labeled an escalating new-car marketplace demanding affordable, high-performance automobiles, and the most popular American road racing series of all time.

Historic Trans AM, vintage trans am racing,The Trans-Am Series thrilled racing enthusiasts four decades ago and significantly helped to change America’s mainstream automobile marketing. Says Trans-Am luminary Dan Gurney, “We had great fans who could really identify with the cars on track,” lamenting, “It’s too bad that it all had to go away.” Parnelli Jones called the Trans-Am a “no-holds-barred, highly competitive series”, while he and others fought their way through every road race lap, often as though there was no tomorrow. Enormously popular in its glory, the SCCA-inspired Trans-American Sedan Championship drew more drivers from Indy, Sports Cars and Can-Am than any other single series. “The racing was fierce, fast and feisty,” says Petersen Museum Tribute Chairman Tom McIntyre, an avid owner who races his Mark Donohue 1968 Chevrolet Camaro. These original Trans-Am Series cars have been carefully preserved and are raced competitively today by members of the ‘Historic Trans-Am Group’.

The Historic Trans-Am Group kicks off its summer 2011 racing tour in Sonoma at Infineon Raceway during the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival. The much loved racecars, restored to original racing specifications, will not only be on display for fans, but on the track in exhibition displays of the fierce racing of series past. The Historic Trans-Am Group invites and encourages families and fans of all ages to spend a day at the races, and continue the legacy of Historic Trans-Am racing.  For more detailed information visit http://www.trans-amseries.com/homepage.htm or add us as a friend on Facebook  http://www.facebook.com/historictransamracing
