(4542 Views)My original 68 AMX that I bought back in November 2013 from its then current owner up in Northern California. I first bought this car right after graduating high school in 1971 and for many years it was the fastest car around and put many much bigger and more powerful and well know cars to shame including a W-30 442, 440 six pack Super Bee, 428 Cobra Jet, and many more. It was not that my little AMC AMX had the most powerful engine rather it had the much more desirable HP to weight ratio so while the other bigger and more powerful engine in other brand cars were burning their tires off the rims I was long gone resulting in the other guys looking at my tail lights. You don't have to have the most HP to be the fastest, you just need to have the best combination of power, weight and traction. In the late 90s I started tearing the car down but before I could finish the restoration I was transferred in my job to the desrert Southwest and a friend bought the car as a basket case in the early 2000s. We stayed in touch and when he offered it back to me in the late 2000s I had purchased another one just like that I had paintstakingly restored but it was never the same. In the spring of 2013 the car's new owner in Northern Califormia contacted me to inquire if I was interested and I jumped at the chance to finally get it back. It will now be my car until I am too old to drive!!!
