Ride Nickname:
70 Cuda Mopar Magic
Make:
Plymouth
Model:
Barracuda
Year:
1970
Introduction / Overview:
when I moved to Arizona from Delaware in 1990, I needed to get into the drag race scene here. In 1994, I found this 1970 Cuda for sale in the classified ads for $1,600 without motor. I bought it, built a mild 440 for it and went bracket racing. From 1994 to 2000 I raced this vehicle in Team Firebird bracket races, winning one race with it in Feb. 1996, and several runner ups. I went all the way to the final 8 cars at the Div. 7 ET Finals in this car at Las Vegas in 1998. Best performance in this car: 12.65 seconds at 108mph.
Drivetrain:
Mild 440 motor that I built with 10:1 compression and a hydraulic "purple" camshaft. Torqueflite 727 automatic transmission with a B&M shifter and reverse valve body. 8 3/4 rear end with a big pinion snubber and super stock springs, carrying 4.10 gears.
Chassis:
Stock Plymouth unibody chassis with frame connectors welded in front to back to stiffen up the whole car. Otherwise it's a stock chassis.
Wheels:
In back I have Mickey Thompson 11.5 inch wide drag slicks on Weld Racing wheels. Up front I have Moroso Front Runners on Weld Racing wheels.
Body:
Yellow paint was originally on it when purchased. I put the "Mopar Magic" lettering on with the Chrysler logo.
Interioir:
Fully gutted and then carpeted to look nice. Only one fiberglass seat for me to sit on. Full 6 point roll cage per NHRA requirements. No dash, just tin. All interior panels and roof liner are removed.
Lifestyles:
Race only
