Introduction / Overview:

The "Hot Rod Cafe Special" is a 1928 Model A Ford Lakes Modified. It's designed to emulate the modifieds that raced on the dry lakes of Southern California during the '40s and '50s.

My wife and I built it in 2004 from a kit made by "Real Hot Rods". It is one of only 18 made and the only one of those that is powered by a flathead Ford V8.

Drivetrain:

This car is powered by an 8BA Ford flathead V8. Bored .030" over, Isly cam, Offenhauser manifold, Edelbrock heads. The short block was done by H&H Flatheads. I dressed it out.

Transmission is a Ford C4 driving to a 9" ford rear with Strange axles.

Chassis:
Frame is fabricated 2x4 box rails. Front springs are 1/4 elliptic with a tube axle and hairpin radius roads.

Wheels:
Wheels are 16" '40 Ford with Coker tires all around.

Body:
The body is fiberglass, the hood is steel. The paint is a 2004 Chrysler color called "Cool Vanilla". Lettering and pinstriping were done by Rob Taylor.

Interioir:
Interior contains a Glide seat with an EZ Boy Interiors cover. (The mexican blanket you see in the photo is now gone) Gauges are Stewart-Warner, shifter is Lokar.
