"Darlene" 1968 Chevrolet Blazer
Introduction / Overview: Started the build back in '01 with '72 4x4 Blazer I bought in Northern Nevada, once I started the initial body work found it to be a major rust bucket with atleast 2 gallons of bondo in the doors and forward bedsides/cabcorners. After moving back to Az later that year the project was put on hold due to getting married, a new job, and starting art school. After graduating from art school in '04 and having time to myself I began rebuilding the original factory 2wd chassis a friend had given me, after sandblasting and repainting all the suspension components, replacing all bushings, ball and tie-rod joints. Stripped and enamel painted the frame, scrubbed all brake/gas lines, and went through the rear end. Found a lesser rusty '70 tub and continued the build.
Drivetrain:
355 cid SBC, Fuelie heads, 30-30 Duntov set-up. 4 Speed Saginaw. 3.73 open rearend.
Chassis: Factory 72' Blazer 2wd.
Wheels and Tires:
15x7 245x60x15 front, 15x8 275x60x15 rear Lee Radial Gt's
Body & Paint:
The Body is a Frankenstien of the junkyard, everything but the tail gate (birthday gift) is original GM metal. Smoothed door handles and filler hole (installed a fuel cell) and cut down the doors to match bedsides. Black Acrylic Enamel with a flattening agent added to give the ol'black primer look, was an experiment that came close but not to the 'Dullness' I wanted oh-well, the red is '72 GMC Fire Red.
Interioir: Original Blazer seats re-upholstered in the early '90's in Red, rebuild instrumet cluster and smoothed dash.
