"The Mothership" 1958 Edsel Corsair
Introduction / Overview:
This is my biggest project yet! My very own 1958 Edsel Corsair 4-door hardtop. This thing is ridiculous. All original, VERY straight, and VERY complete. As rust free as 58's get. It has 157k documented miles and the teletouch shift system works! BIG plans for this one. I sold the ghia to pay for the parts i needed to build the engine: a 413 from a 1962 Chrysler Imperial. Its even got the matching TF727 push-button trans which i will be attaching to the electric shift system from the Edsel. This thing is going to be awesome.
Drivetrain: '62 Imperial 413 big block. Mopar Performance 492/509 cam kit, fresh valve job with better seals and guides and dual coil valve springs. Weiand tunnel ram port-matched with 2 Weber 45 DCOE carbs on top. Torque Flite 727 push-button trans hooked up to Edsel's Teletouch system. The tunnel ram is all about the stuff-sticking-out-the-hood look i always wanted a big american car to have. The stock rear end is a 2.92 gear which is going to suck, but later on I'll put in a better ratio and a 3500 stall converter.
Chassis: Stock. 4 wheel self adjusting 11" drum brakes. Once the motor work is done and everything under the car is done i'll put the frame on the ground in some permanent way.
Wheels and Tires: Not sure yet. Stock 14" with factory covers for now.
Body & Paint: Original!
Interioir: Custom mexican blanket job over the original stuff.
