"62 PreThunderbolt" 1962 Ford Fairlane
Built with a "If I knew then what I know now" attitude. Not as a replica, clone, or tribute car; but as a Fantasy build. All the look and appeal of an early 60's AFX Drag car, but with a few modern twists.

Started as a pretty stock 260/289 small block car. Being fitted with a 390 FE bored and stroked to 445 cu.in. Edlebrock "Cross-Ram" intake with 2 660 Holleys for go-juice. Edelbrock Aluminum heads (painted black) and a Vintage Mallory "Super-Mag" Magneto for spark. A solid Roller Cam will be in charge of valvetrain duty. and a set of custom stainless headers to get rid of the gasses. This coupled to a 1969 Toploader 4spd trans and then to a 9" Ford "N-case" 4:11 Detroit Locker.

Mustang II IFS front suspension grafted on for rack and pinion steering and disc brakes in the front, and a 9" Ford rear end with Explorer disc kit form Currie. The Car was cleaned and blasted before weld in subframe connectors from torque box to torque box helped to stiffen up the uni-body. To really stiffen up the ride, a full custom cage was installed with 1 5/8" .134 wall DOM tubing. Currently awaiting mini tubs to accomadate up to a 12" slick.

Not sure of an exact wheel tire combo yet for the front, but definately steelies in the rear with a 12"wide slick in the rear-Debating between a true Halibrand sprint, versus a American Racing "Salt Flat Special" for the front end

Body mods will include a custom made STEEL teardrop hood scoop grafeted to the stock hood just to be different. Here's a pic of the special tool bought just for the challange. Other than that the body will be stock except a change to "Vintage Burgandy" for final color. Oh yea, will lose the two inner head lights for a custom Ram Air set up to force feed the ponies.
