Jake’s Road Savage 1954 Chevy Bel Air Custom
2011 Grand National Roadster Show – It’s a Driver!
Cruisin the GNRS halls until your feet are putty, it pays off when you meet a guy like Jake Moomey.
Jake’s a soft spoken hot rodder hailing from Michigan. He drove, yea DROVE his killer 1954 Chevy Bel Air out to Mohave, CA for the Gene Winfield and Larry Watson, “Custom Car and Hot Rod Gathering” at Winfields shop. That’s an ass-numbing 2300 miles one way! After the show, Jake left his custom with a buddy in Corona, CA then flew back to Michigan.
Next, Jake came back for the Mooneye’s show in December, then flew back… then one month later, here he is inside at the Grand National Roadster show! You seeing a pattern?
Well he ain’t done yet!
After GNRS, Jake’s back to freezing Michigan until March when he’ll drive out to the Lonestar Rod & Kustom Round Up in Austin, TX. From there, he’s back on the road once again and making the drive back to Michigan.
A cracked windshield worn proud by Jake’s fitty-fo.
By the ever handy Google Maps, that’s a total of 5100 miles! Eat that power tour!
Anyone drive more than that last year?
Don’t think Jake’s some kind of gold chaining-jet setter for all the trips he’s making… He got the money the old fashioned hot rodder way, by selling a 1929 Ford Roadster somewhat barn find he found then quickly sold for a nice profit. (Why can’t I ever do that?)
Jake’s long-hauling custom sports a 3.5″ chop and 3″ channel with all the body mods covered in House of Kolor Candy Lime Green with micro silver flake by Ted Aguilar. 176 louvers stretch out over the Chevy 350 and 700R4 highway friendly transmission. Out back you’ll find ’56 Packard taillights looking right at home with fine lines by pinstriper Jerry Czerwinski.
Two giant thumbs up for Jake and his Chevy. Have a great trip home!

That is awsome!!! Love to see someone that drives their car and has fun with it.
I took a bunch of shots of this car and the one that he was towing when he hit the KKOA in Salina, KS in 2010. Yes he uses this car as a tow vehicle from time to time too! Very cool guy and way kool kustom! There’s a feature on the car in the KKOA DVD that Vintage Torque did.
