The last post I did using Pascal Hein's photos was German cars in Germany. Today, I bring you American Hot Rods and Customs in Germany. It's an interesting idea to think of an American Muscle car or a traditional roadster as an "import" car. As we saw with Tano's '26 T Roadster from Japan, there are some very cool American rides all over the globe. Let's see what Germany has in store for us... Here's a great line up of 20-30's hot rods. Datsun Does Maxton, Bring on Bonneville

For my 1 year anniversary and 100th blog post at MyRideisMe.com I share with you a classic Japanese land speed racecar, err... truck, a Datsun 620. I spotted it on the Japanese Nostalgic Car blog/website HERE. If you don't have this on your blog reader, go ahead and add it now. The picture credit goes out to Stephen Rosinni, a professional photographer out of NY. According to JNC's blog post, the Datto truck belongs to Barry Brown of Riter Automotive and was run at the Maxton Mile recently. It runs in the F/PMP class (F = 2.01 - 3.0 liter, PMP = Production mini/mid pickup) with a 2 liter that makes about 220hp equipped with Nissan 50mm race carbs and a Nissan 5 speed. The #1620 truck broke the class record of 119mph by running 123 in the standing mile. The Riter Automotive crew, out of Rochester, NY, plans on running at Bonneville this year. Hopefully we can bring you all some more pics and details. Of course, when it runs at B'ville, we'll hopefully bring you news of another broken record. I've been a little quiet of late on the MyRideisMe blog. I have good reason. With (as opposed to without) much adieu (it's taken me years to nail down a car I REALLY wanted) I present my new (and used) hot rod! Not a hot rod you say? Ok, well, then let's call it a suby rod. This blog will NOT do justice (crappy pictures, I promise better ones in the future, these were taken while giving son #3 his first ride in "daddy's suby") to how much I love this car and how excited I am to own it and drive it. But, I'll do my best to introduce you to my new daily driver/project car, "SUBYROD" (see my MyRideisMe.com Garage HERE). I think its time for some more aircooler LOVE!!! Remember our German Facebook friend, Pascal Hein? We blogged about his cherry Lemon (lemon is what he named the car) classic 1973 BMW 1802 Touring. Pascal took these pictures at a big VW Bug and Bus Meeting in Germany, home of the "People's Car" brand. Most of the bugs you'll see came from Great Britain, Belgium or from Netherlands. I thought I'd grab my favorites from Pascal's photo website http://www.vipallica.deviantart.com/. This is my favorite picture. I'm really likin' this blue Cal-Look big window bug. It's got the big single turbo muffler, nerf bars, narrowed front beam with all the chrome trim. Bugs with a nice raked stance are one of my favorite cars of all time. One of the coolest vdubs is the early buses or Kombi's. When slammed, they are saweet kruzers! This rust-a-rific bus is rockin' some white painted Porsche Fuch wheels on low pro tires. Had to share some pictures of this year's Goodguys giveaway car. I'm working on a story about last years winner. The guy was in Equador when a buddy pulled the winning key. Funniest thing is that same friend qualified to win THIS car in November at our home show in Scottsdale. So check out the "Boss Snake". We caught a glimpse of the Snake in Scottsdale for the first annual Spring Nationals where the RPM Hot Rods guys and another magazine were shooting. Sapporo, Japan is NOT what people think of as a center for hot rodding car culture and they're right, its not. But, there is a cool dude from Japan who's a real hot rodder living the hot rod life. Kiyoshi Tanomura (aka Tano) and I became Facebook friends a couple weeks ago. I accepted Tano's request solely because of his Profile Picture. It was a picture of this 1926 Ford Model T roadster, built in the Traditional rod style. I saw his Japanese name with that American hot rod picture and said to myself, "I need to find out about this guy!" Just looking at the roadster, would you expect this to come out of Japan? As you can imagine, the hot rod parts came from the States. The build is a well thought out, period correct hot rod that few could achieve. Japanese car nuts are just the type to achieve such a build. Why? From what little I know about the Japanese culture is they have great respect for their ancestors and history, they are very detailed oriented, even passionate about the details and seem to be natural engineers. Are you a "do-it-yourselfer" (DIY) hot rodder? Do you wrench on your own cars? Well, this is a DIY'er to the max. I came across pictures of Jared Drinkwater's Mitsubishi Evolution on NASIOC.com, a Subaru enthusiasts forum of all places. I'm a huge fan of the Mitsubish Evo for sure, but I was blown away at Jared's engineering and build skills. Jared is like the ultimate do-it-yourselfer. He is a Mechanical Engineer by day, by night he engineers parts for his Evo, which he races on road courses. Jared makes his own aero parts, race seat rails, fire extinguisher mounts, rebuilt his own engine (with a stroker kit and bigger turbo) and more. Dig these pics of his ride and Binary Eng parts you can buy for your own Evo. Jared's "Binary Engineering" Mitsubishi Evolution in his new race livery. Drawing Cars with My Buddy Joel This blog post is a long time coming. We at MyRideisMe have shown off a number of talented hot rod artists. Joel Nelson of 1320 Designs is most definitely on that list. I mean, just dig these drawings below. Asking Joel how he got into drawing cars, he said: I got into drawing cars from watching The Dukes of Hazzard on prime time and Smokey and the Bandit. Thankfully CarTOONS was in full circulation too and that really put me over the edge! Then during the late 80's and early 90's, I really got into drawing Pro Street cars. Nothing was safe from becoming "pro street-ed". You could make anything look nasty by dropping it and adding a set of big 'n' littles! I like to work with markers and pastels mostly but have been known to do hand painted work in Photoshop too. Nothing beats pencil and paper though! This first one is Joel's latest and is our own Pikesan's 1961 AMC Rambler Wagon gasser concept drawing. You'll be seeing more of this concept from Joel in the future as he fine tunes...

Full Tilt Built Comet Street Rod

We were sent this story and being Comet/Falcon lovers, we had to post it. Anytime I hear or see a Mercury Comet, I smile. My dad owned a '64 Comet Cyclone. '61 Comets are not your typical hot rod platform, but you wouldn't know it from seeing this particular purple rod. It was built by Full Tilt Street Rods in Grand Junction, Colorado, and they had this to say about the project on their website: "Clay and the Full Tilt Crew started with a bone-stock 1961 Comet, tore it down to the frame and installed a couple of tons of the finest street rod parts available. The '61 features Full Tilt's complete Hub-to-Hub Mustang II IFS and Full Tilt's Parallel 4-Bar rear with ShockWaves. Full Tilt also did the body work, applied the dive-in-deep "Full Tilt Purple" base coat/clear coat paint and fabricated the custom upholstery." Of all the views of this rod, I like this rear 3/4 shot. The painted bumper, custom frenched tails and the big 335/35/17 meats give this ride the perfect street rod stance. Super low and the just the right amount of rake. Too...
