World's Saltiest 1966 Barracuda! Normally when you see a car in impound, the crew attends the race car's mechanical needs, if any, then starts cleaning and removing the salt from the last run. Don'tcha wanna look your best? (going to impound's a good thing! Look here for Setting a Record at Bonneville) These are a couple cool-lighted morning shots of Robert (Bob) Dally's 1966 Barracuda on the way back to the starting line to backup their record run on Sunday morning. Bob landed in impound since they went 113 mph on a soft 100 mph F/CPRO record. On Monday, the record was set at 115 mph, then again on Tuesday at their top speed of Speed Week 2013: 132.85 mph. F-size engines are only up to 183 cu. in, so Bob's Barracuda wasn't running a Hemi, it was a little old slant 6. Salty Grille! Bob and his crew didn't spend much time cleaning, so it was an opportune time for me to grab some shots! As you could have guessed, some people complained about wet conditions out on the track and the 'Cuda certainly shows that. ...

"It's in the record books. The 65th annual (SCTA) Southern California Timing Association's Speed Week is History !!! Some records fell. The crowd was lively and the Hot Rods and Custom roamed the salt and local casino curse night with ease. Come along and take a look at my favorites from the salt and the Nugget car show." - Teach 1) So what do you do with that rusty 4-door Edsel your uncle Fred leaves you in his will ??? Blown Caddy - Custom 1959 Cadillac Heard of Sic Chops out of Lake Havasu, Arizona? If you're a fan of custom cars, especially custom Cadillacs, then you should have! I met Scott Laitinen, owner and super cool dude at the Scottsdale Goodguys show where him and some pals were demonstrating how a new-build 1960 Caddy was only 8.5 Beer Cans Tall! Well, he's at it again! His latest creation is a 600 HP Cadillac LSA powered 1959 Cadillac sporting 2 inch chop off the convertible top. Not bad... HELL, this thing's Sic! Look closely and you'll see that there's a few finishing touches yet to finish... when I can grab the details and ask Scott about the owner and why, "My Ride is Me" I'll update this story. Until then, make sure to check out the SIC Chops homepage and to leave a comment below. Which Cad's cooler? This 1959 or hammered 1960's...
Hot Rods and Customs at 2013 Bonneville Speed Week

Mark Jacobs' Salt-shots from Bonneville my man... Mark's come through with a great set of pictures from 2013 Bonneville Speed Week. With his wife Teresa, they flew down from Washington to attend their 2nd Speed Week. Instead of an over-priced hotel room, they stop by a sporting goods store, or Target or the like and get all the camping gear - and cooler full-a-cold-ones - to hang at the local KOA campgrounds with friends. Between or busy photo sessions (consisting of mostly shooting every cool thing we see!) we hung out and caught up on what's been happening since last year's Speed Week... So enjoy Mark's photos and tell'm hey over at his Photography Fan Page. Rob Ida's Tucker recreation. It was awesome to meet Rob and see the Gyronaut X-1 recreation Rob worked on as well. I've seen some amazing picture of the Tucker floating around Instagram. Rob's a Tucker fan because his grandfather owned a Tucker dealership! Tell me Mark shouldn't make posters of these fine hot rods!! Do you prefer the color, or black and white? Click here for all of...
Chute-Poppin Photos from 2013 Bonneville Speed Week

Somebody get me a longer camera lens! I'm not a professional photographer.... I don't have a super long lens... like this guy: I could sit around and whine about what's fair, but instead, I decided to experiment!! I've been going to Bonneville since 2009, so I've seen alot of the great white expanse. I haven't, however, spent too much time near the end of the track. The Bonneville race cars speed by at 200 to sometimes 400 mph, so you don't have much chance for photos! I tried my Nikon 18-200 anyway and here's what happened... Chute pops! This #507 owned by Dan Aleshire running in the B/GR (roadster) class. We were standing near the 5 mile marker (as you can see in the photo below). The "long course" at Bonneville was 5 full miles of race track. You can set a record in any mile, or you can slow down and exit the track anywhere as well. Only cars running 175 mph or higher are allowed on the long course and the faster cars will use every bit of the 9 mile run-off to slow down....

Brock's Buick Upgraded & Faster at Bonneville Kicking off Bonneville 2013 Coverage, here's a quick look at the upgrades on Jeff Brock's too-cool 1952 Buick Super Riviera. We profiled the birth of "Bombshell Betty" in another story about this Bonneville Record Setting Race car here. In the the picture above, you can see the windows added to the side of the car. Also, you get a first look at the custom made intake scoop! Jeff's an artist and no slouch when it comes to metal work! If anyone wants the above picture for a screen saver, shoot me an email, I'll be happy to send it over! Success! Jeff broke his own record. Rocket Heads Studio running in the XO/GCC class ran 165.735 on a 165.380 mph record. Yes, by 0.355 mph! Get $2500 from Gumout for your Hot Rod Project Are you working on a hot rod project? Maybe your project is stalled? Is it taking too long (that's me!) or you haven't even started yet? Don't worry! Make it fun, and take advantage of Gumout's offer to help out with $2500! To inspire or maybe just give ya the friendly kick in the pants you need to get started, I wanted to tell a couple stories about successful hot rod projects and one slick Chevy truck getting dropped and bagged in one day. First look above... you see Victor, closest to his home built Model A hot rod coupe, standing with Jim and Chris. I know Vic's a hard worker and talented building just about anything he sets out to make for himself or his Throttle Kings Car Club buddies. I met Vic when his hot rod was just getting started: Vic enjoyed this hot rod coupe as much as anyone could with multiple trips to Viva Las Vegas Car Show and LA Roadster Show visits. Maybe that's the trick to long term project...

1955-1959 Chevrolet Truck New Gauge Style I'm happy to showcase another great new product from our friends at Auto Meter. To complement their 1955-1956 Chevy Bel Air gauge panel, they're now custom making a gauge set for every Chevy Truck from 1955-1959. Set your truck apart with this great looking new panel! MORE in the official press release below... read on! From Auto Meter: Introducing Auto Meter Nostalgia Series Five Gauge Mount for 55 - 59 Chevrolet Truck July 17, 2013, Sycamore, IL - The dashboard design of the 55 - 59 Chevrolet "Task Force" trucks is regarded by many enthusiasts as one of the hallmarks of that generation of pickups. However, the nearly 60 year old original instruments are hardly up to today's standards. Whether you're working on a resto-mod or a full blown hot rod issues of installation and compatibility where newer performance engines and transmissions are concerned are likely to cause you some headaches. Historically the unique V-shaped opening of the original speedometer cowl in the dashboard made the upgrade to better aftermarket instruments a difficult task without disrupting the...
Ford Falcon Shelby Drop How-To: Handle it!

Drop's Good Enough for Shelby are Great for Me! Well, I finally got it done! After tons research, probably too much, and asking around about what's commonly known as the "Shelby Drop", if braved the Arizona summer and dropped my 1963 Ford Falcon wagon. Wish I could tell you how it handles, but it's still a project. Why the Shelby Drop? To find out, I did some checking in with my Falcon and Mustang buddies at Fordsix.com. Fordsix.com's a great place to learn about all kinds of six cylinder engines, as well as the cars and trucks that use them. There's folks from all over the world helping out... The main benefits of the Shelby Drop may not be what you think... it does lower the ride height (maybe up to 5/8"), just a little, but the biggest advantages are: Improved suspension geometry Improved body roll (resistance to roll) A higher tendency to oversteer instead of understeer as designed by Ford Better use of slightly wider, better constructed modern radials There's quite a bit of info out there, mostly for Mustangs, to look over. Check out these if you're still on...
Video: Metal Flake with a 40-buck Paint Gun

Cheap Paint Guns Still Shoot Metal Flake When I posted my metal flake FAIL I heard from my new friend Chris at Chaotic Customs. He made a great how-to story about creating a custom metal flake roof for your ride. (Picture from my vast photo archive, I have no idea what paint gun was used here or who's ride this is...) Great Chris, but I don't have a $300 paint gun, and guess what, as often as I use one, I doubt I'll spend the money on one since we all have so many toys we want. (plus, as my friends would attest, I'm a tight-ass!) Challenge accepted! (and then some) Chris came through with a how-to video for shooting metal flake and he used a cheap Harbor Freight gun! I hope we can all afford $30-40 for a gun and if you watch, Harbor Freight has 20% coupons available almost all the time. Chris also shows a few more details about setting up the gun and what he literally throws away when using the HF gun. It's a fun video with great commentary... Thanks a million...
