Hot Rod Pinup Ashley Croft I never thought that the jaw harp and watermelons would come up in one of my Pinup of the Month interviews, but alas, I haven't interviewed Ashley Croft before. With her timeless beauty and fun personality, Ashley is able to create some stunning pin up imagery. If you didn't know any better you would think she stepped right outta the good ol' days. Don't get confused by that, because Ashley has a few ideas in her head about a pretty wild sounding, alternative style photo shoot... it involves an alcoholic drink of a certain color and a bouncy horse... I guess we will have to keep our fingers crossed with that one and hope it comes to life one day. For now, you can check out these photos she has shared with us which were taken by Pin Up photographer Robin Cook. Pin Up modeling has often crossed paths with alternative style of modeling. What would your most crazy, off the wall photo shoot consist of if you had the chance? I do tend to lean more toward traditional pin up themes in my shoots. I love the timelessness,...
2011 Nite of the Hot Rods Car Show – Custom Car Cult

NorCal Hot Rods and Custom Car Show Pictures Nite of the Hot Rods #5 107.7 The Bone Rock Girl Brittany Cervantes 11:05 am on Saturday morning I was in the back yard pulling some unwanted weeds and up in the skies were some wicked black and grey clouds just looming over the city of Concord, CA. As I had 10,000 years by High on Fire running through my head and anticipating the sky to rip open at any second I pondered the thought of, "How cool would it be if the weather stayed like this for the show tonight?" Meaning, the 5th Annual Nite of the Hot Rods at the Riverview Lodge in Antioch, CA. The day went on and the thunderhead started to disappear the closer it got to show time. Reason why I thought it would be cool that the weather stayed that way is because the show, like every year is held on the pier at the lodge, but this year there was something different in the air, something a bit weird. Kind of like that feeling you get when you walk into a room and...
Daisie Fairlane, Hot Rod Pin Up and Bigfoot Believer
posted by Aubrey London
Hot Rod Pinup Daisie Fairlane Hot blonde, Check. Hot blonde who like cars, check. Hot blonde who likes to drive and work on cars? CHECK.. This Barris Spokesmodel (as in George Barris) embodies that perfect hot rod pinup persona. Smokin' hourglass figure with platinum blonde hair and a no holds barred attitude when it comes to her rides. She knows what she likes... classics... and she's not afraid to tell you she's, let's say, not a fan of the whole import and "Fast and Furious" scene. She likes to feel steel under the hood and vinyl under her, well, bum. The only thing that might stand between Daisie and her dream car would be Bigfoot himself. Photo shoot Scenario: What do you do with these only props- a car, a paintbrush, some paint... In this scene I picture Route 66. An abandoned gas station in the middle of nowhere. The car is broke down with the hood up. Instead of fixing the car I'm painting the gas station, in the reflection of the car you see me holding the brush and the gas station is back to its heyday... If...
2011 Strangers Car Show – Family Fiesta

NorCal Hot Rods and Custom Car Show Pictures Story Contributed by MyRideisMe.com member: Nick Koljian "Hellcity316" 2011 Strangers Car Show I would like to start off by saying the Strangers Car show and BBQ is a special show in many ways. One, it's a family show for us here at the N/K residence. The whole family piles in to the wagon and heads down 680 south in route for San Jose's Kelly park. Dave,my bro-in-law and his son roll in for the festivities. It's a family affair gig. We all park it in the same place right behind the raffle booth every year under one of the many shade trees in the park. Throw the blanket down, kick out the chairs and the girls spew out all their toys for the day. Two, it's the headliner of a double dip show weekend. On that Saturday is Gambino's Sit Down custom car show in San Jose which is always a dandy. Then you have the Strangers on Sunday. Which in my opinion is one of the highly anticipated and blockbuster weekends of the summer for shows. Third, it marks my...
You Never Forget Your First Hot Rod – 39 Ford Coupe
posted by Pete Schow
1939 Ford Coupe - Nostalgia Minded Business Coupe “High School Hot Rods” have been staples of the car scene since their popularity first took off in the 1950's. Innovative and determined teenagers across the country turned out these cars in their local high school shop class with a single goal in mind – beat anything the rich kids from the other side of the tracks could buy from the local Big 3 dealerships. Ray Southard’s 1939 Ford Business Coupe Deluxe exemplifies traditional high school hot rod styling and how you never forget your first; hot rod that is... Ray spent his teenage years growing up in Reno, NV. At the age of 14, Ray bought a 39’ Ford Coupe shell from a friend’s dad that had been basking in the Nevada sun for several years. The shell only set the young teen back $15, but a long list of parts and time lay ahead. Ray took a job doing parts inventory at a local salvage yard. As any part he could use came through, Ray set'm aside into his own personal parts bin or quickly installed them on the...

Northern California Car Show - Hot Rods and Customs in Vallejo Story Contributed by MyRideisMe.com member: Nick Koljian "Hellcity316" Round 2 was a TKO 2012 NorCal Knockout Coverage Here Just 365 days after the 1st ever Nor Cal Knockout, Korena and Hollywood Hank were at it again with the 2011 Nor Cal Knockout. Simply put it's Nor Cal Knockout Round 2. I will tell you this: Round 2 was just that with local heavy hitters the Swanx CC stepping in to lend a well needed hand to the founders of this amazing show. The morning of the show while sipping on a cup of joe in my front yard waiting on my ride I thought to myself, "It's going to be tough to top last years phenomenal showing." As Scotty of the Villianz CC pulled up in his 51' flamed Chevy (shown above with knockout Sarah Neary) I hopped in and we were off to Vallejo to meet up with the rest of the club. Once everyone was in-check and the coolers where filled with ice, grub and of course bevmo's... We set off to the Solano County Fairgrounds....
Race for the Roses – A Motorsports History Lesson
posted by JZ
Portland International Raceway Rose Cup Half a century ago in the spring of 1961, something amazing happened in Portland, Oregon that changed the course of the city’s history as a racing and automotive town. And it takes a little history lesson to really get what happened. When World War II came to America in December of 1941, the country suddenly needed a lot more ships than they had been producing. Portland was identified as a good safe place to build ships – it was 60 miles from the coast, and yet had good access to the Columbia River. So in just 6 months, Henry J. Kaiser built a city on a bunch of swampy floodplain at the north end of town. That new city, called Vanport (a mashup of Vancouver and Portland) produced ships all the way through the war, and provided both employment and housing to its workers. When the war ended, the shipyards shut down and the workers dispersed into Portland – the housing at the yards was not built to last and started falling apart into a slum. Then in 1948, Mother Nature did some urban...
Mercury Charlie’s Sweet Nadine – The Price was Right
posted by Pete Schow
51 Mercury Coupe Charlie Runnels, better known throughout the kustom scene as Mercury Charlie, has a background as unique and colorful as his world famous ’51 Mercury coupe, the elegant "Sweet Nadine". Growing up on the wrong side of the proverbial tracks in rural Oklahoma, Charlie’s early days in the car scene began with him hustling to stock pile as many tri-five Chevy parts as he could get his hands on. Before too long, drag racers, kustomizers and repair shops alike came to know Charlie on a first name basis as he always seemed to have those hard to find pieces. Fast forward several years and lifestyle changes and Charlie found himself in Austin, TX appraising properties and working side jobs in the real estate business. While appraising a foreclosed property near the University of Texas one afternoon in 1987, Charlie would meet the lady he would spend the next 25 years of his life with. As he walked the property Charlie noticed an old abandoned car out back resting below a pecan tree. Upon closer inspection, the old car turned out to be a complete ’51 Mercury....

What Does Your Garage Say About You?
posted by pikesan
What does your garage say about you? People say that the clothes make the man, or that you are what you drive, and there are a million or so other cheesy sayings just like those that will apparently tell us all that we need to know about you. Yeah, right. How about “What does your garage say about you?” I think that would be a far more telling peek into who you are than your choose of shoes or jacket. This garage's owner is at least slightly noncommittal! He can't decide if he actually wants his car in there or not, so he leaves space for it that never actually gets used. The couch is conspicuously uncovered meaning he might like to use it sometime, but its awkward positioning means he probably never actually does. Somewhere between cluttered and functional, this garage manages to be neither! So what does your garage say about you? Is there a polyaspartic floor coating inlaid with flaming skulls or maybe a glossy black concrete stain? Did you go for a minimal industrial floor coating and concrete counters, or perhaps there’s zebra stripes and...

Which is becoming a Kustom Kulture staple in a rich history of Portland’s Rose City Festivals. Portland's best hot rod and kustom kulture show geared up for it's 4th Rose City Round Up. The Rose City Round-up is an annual event hosted by the Driven Dead Car Club (CC) to celebrate the hot rod lifestyle of the Pacific Northwest. This being my 1st run at the Round Up, I was quite revved up for this event. It's no secret that I have a fondness for the Great Northwest not to mention a love for the culture. I had plenty of time to think about it as we drove 10hrs up Interstate 5 to get to Portland, Or. I have to admit it's quite a drive when you have...
SoCal Pomona’s Open House – Nothing to See Here

Hot Rod, Street Rods and Customs Pack Pomona (click on any picture to see it full size) In all the years I've been going to the LA Roadster Show, I've always attended the SoCal Speed Shop's open house car show on the Friday night before the Roadster Show. By about 4PM on Friday, everyone's already setup their swap spaces and scoped out the early deals, so besides grabbing a bite, there's not much else to do except see some great local custom hot rods and see what Jimmy Shine and the other builders are up to at the shop. Outside the shop, the streets are lined with hot rods and customs like this 49 Buick Sedanette. Out of all the cars I saw this weekend, this Buick was one of my favorites. It was for sale too. Got an extra $45k? Much like the high style and high dollar cars found at the LA Roadster Show, SoCal brings in some of the finest hot rod examples to be found in all of California... and farther. They normally have at least one Billy Gibbons project going on, and he's, "Bad,...
