I can't say it's cool when you enter the John Force Racing compound. It's OVERWHELMING! The people, the parts, the action, I love it! We (Pikesan and Swanee) first entered the pit area of John Force, Ashley Force-Hood and NHRA Champion Robert Hight at the test and tune at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, AZ to find every team working feverishly, even though, racing for the night was done. It's obvious, this team works well together, everyone knows their job and they're ready to rock for the Winternationals in Pomona. As a huge fan of the NHRA, especially the John Force Racing team, meeting and talking to Austin Coil, then having a short sit down with the charming, yet #2 in the world funny car racer, Ashley Force-Hood was a dream come true. It's a sure sign that the JFR team loves their fans. So dig this short interview of loveliest lady of motorsports (Danica, it ain't even close!) Ashely Force-Hood. After making several full passes, I found her listening to the Vikings, Saints game on TV while working on her laptop. . Facebook and a Rare BMW 1802 Touring named “Lemon”
posted by Hechtspeed
You're on Facebook right yall? No? Get with the program! That's how MyRideisMe.com and Pascal Hein got together, through the MyRideisMe Facebook Fanpage. Go check it out and join our Fanpage, right after you read this cool story of course. Pascal is from Germany and he has shared his classic bimmer he calls "Lemon". A 1973 1802 Touring model. Sit back, grab some Kugen (yummy pastries my German grandma Hecht makes for desserts) and enjoy storytime from the motherland. Take it away Pascal! "My Bimmer was built in 1973. The so called "Touring" was BMWs first try to build a hatchback and also the last try until 1993, when they introduced the compact edition of the 3 Series. Actually people didn't like this concept in the early 70s so just around 30,000 Touring models were produced and just around 970 of them were 1802 Tourings like mine, while there were houndreds of thousands of normal BMW 02 sedans. So in 1984 my father managed to buy this car after he wanted to have one for many years. It had two owners before he bought it and had some damage on the rear...
Cool Steel in Steel City World of Wheels Car Show
posted by Bubba Harmon
Getting your Hot Rod Fix at the Pittsburgh World of Wheels Another World of Wheels has come and gone in Pittsburgh, PA, AKA The Steel City, and it did not disappoint. Once again the wife and I hit the road to take in a car show, shoot some photos, and just enjoy being out of the house. After scraping off the ice from the previous day’s storm we were on our way for the 4 hour trip to the David Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh. I actually find driving fairly relaxing so the trek went pretty quick. There was something for everyone. If you like high end customs there were over-the-top rods like John Mai’s beautiful 1933 Willys Coupe. Into race cars? Drag City USA was on hand displaying several vintage dragsters like the 1967 Bounty Hunter that was driven by Connie Kalitta. Want to learn something? A number of airbrush artists were on hand demonstrating their craft. Feeling charitable? You could have bid on some of the art that the pinstripers were creating all weekend. Were there rat rods? Yup. There were many rats and kustoms including...

Car Interior 102 – Rebuilding Your Seats
posted by GreaseGirl
Looking at this picture now, I can no longer imagine my original plans were to simply slap some seat covers on and call it a day. I changed my mind when I realized these ol' seats had been rat-infested and that the majority of my time spent with my car would be sitting in the driver’s seat! Making over my car's interior was one of the first jobs I tackled alone on my 1955 Studebaker. Whenever I open the door and sit on my plush and sturdy bench seat, I'm thankful that I took the time. This article is just one of an entire series focusing on how-to rebuild your car's interior yourself, next up will be Car Interior 103 - Auto Upholstery. Before we get to upholstering, let’s make sure you've got a good foundation to put that pretty new fabric on. Following the steps below will get ya ready to ride in style and comfort! 1.) Pull the seats out of your car. You can't very well work on those seats while they’re still inside the car! This job is easiest when you've got plenty of room...
VW Beetle Road Racers
posted by Hechtspeed
My first car was a 1972 Bug I picked up from a family friend for $500 (Check my Bug Garage here). Then I spent 2 years in Brazil as a missionary for my church. Brazil was one of the few countries that manufactured the Volkswagen Beetle. I was surrounded by them. One of the cities I lived in had a race track and they used to run Copa Fusca, which means Beetle Cup, a race class just for road racing Vdub Bugs. Some of these photos also come from the German version, the Kafer Cup series. I got to thinking and did a quick google image search. Check these Fuscas out, so rad! I dig the front airdam spoiler, extra wide fenders and wide wheels and tires. Pretty simple formula. This silver Fusca may be running a front radiator or oil cooler, not sure. Man that looks fun! Here's a German Kafer racer. Check out that big Porsche style rear wing! The little vent behind the rear window tells you its a 1972 or newer Bug. I believe all these VW racers are "Super Beetles", the name given to the...
3 Easy Ways to Improve Your Car Photography
posted by pikesan
Written by Jim McIlvaine Our cars are our pride and joy. We love them, cherish them and in some cases, treat them better than we treat ourselves. Realistically, we know the relationships we have with our beloved machines usually don’t last a lifetime. Our tastes may change or our family obligations may finally win out and we eventually part ways. Still, we’ll always have memories and often photos are a great way to re-live some of those special times. Unfortunately, our love for our vehicles is often blind. When we look through the viewfinder, all we see is our car and we often overlook some pretty glaring issues that are really detracting from our pride and joy. It doesn’t have to be this way! To help out, here are three easy tips, which will, regardless of what kind of camera you own, help you take better pictures of your ride. Tip #1: Location, Location, Location You’ve spent all weekend detailing your car and finally it's perfect for pictures. Next, you break out your camera and start snapping some shots, right? WRONG! Your car deserves better than that. Take a...
Hot Rod Art at Gasoline Gallery
posted by GreaseGirl
It's Saturday night rolling down Main Street in El Segundo, a cute little Maybury-esque town in Los Angeles County. All of the sudden the street is lined with hot rods and some bobber-styled bikes. Cool cats pour out of a store front holding cans of Pabst beer in their hands. Have I landed in heaven?! Not just yet. It just the New Year's Nuisance 2 art show & party at Gasoline Gallery. This gallery has been growing into its own little epicenter of kustom kulture over the past couple years. Specializing in low-brow art and artist-featured t-shirts (and most recently a record label all their own,) Gasoline Gallery throws these great shin-digs every couple months when their gallery-show changes. I've been to a few of these now and am pleased to report this show was just as high quality and fun as the others - with artist, 3 sheets, taking the spotlight. That's enough of my blabbering, let me just show you the pictures! For more info on any of the work or artists shown, contact Gasoline Gallery or look em up on MySpace. I didn't realize at first...
Rat Fink Reunion 2010
posted by Hechtspeed
Check this out guys and gals. I told you to keep an eye on Andy's Pinstriping blog didn't I? Here's his latest work, getting ready for the Rat Fink Reunion 2010. "As is tradition every year at the Rat Fink Reunion, The artist's give out an "Artist's Choice" award to their favorite vehicle at the show. This years "trophy" from me is a metal panel that features my man Fink doing some ca-razy stripe and letter work...and to finish it off I also distressed the panel so it looks like it was hanging in Ed's shop in Maywood California back in the early sixties. I hope whoever receives this enjoys it as it was a labor of love to make!" Andy Click on the image to blow it up real big. Looks even cooler! Rat Fink Reunion 2010, Manti, Utah June 3-5, be there or be square! I hope to attend this year's event. How often is there an event of this caliber in Utah right? Hechtspeed...
Fresh LeMons with ahhh… Strict Rules – For FUN!
posted by pikesan
Call them "lemons" or piles of crap or simply junk. Still, can you argue these guys are having fun racing them!? I first heard about the Concours d'LeMons and took note because it was part of the super prestigious and maybe super "snobby" Monterey Concours Week including the world famous Concours d'Elegance. Dating back to 1950, we can't hate on the big-daddy of Concours Week in Pebble Beach because they now include class "U" Hot Rods: Lakesters and Bonneville Racers. Gotta hit that show one of these days! The 24 Hours of LeMons, an obvious play on the 24 Hours of LeMans, the worlds oldest endurance sports car race, the "Lemons" used in this race are cars worth not more than $500. More than anything I'm wondering, what kind of cars get entered and when can I see this first hand? Turns out, I'll show you the cars here and see'm first hand in Phoenix at the kickoff event for the LeMons series at Firebird Raceway. Dubbed the Auction-Weekend Gavel-Tap GP in honor of the slew of high dollar auction that are part of Arizona's Auction Week, the race...
A Pocket Full of POSIES (open house)

Hot Rods on a Cold Day - Guests' Rides at POSIES Open House So what would make this car guy get up at 5am on a Saturday morning and drive 2 hours in temperatures struggling to make it into the 20s? FREE DOUGHNUTS! Well, that and a chance to hang out with other car enthusiasts at the POSIES annual open house. Posies Rods and Customs, best known for their Super Slide Springs, swung open their shop doors to the general public on the morning of Jan 9 from 8am until noon. Ken “POSIES” Fenical was there to greet everyone and treated us like old friends. This small shop, just a few miles outside of Hershey in Hummelstown, PA, likes to say they build “statements” rather than cars. “Anybody can restore an antique. . . it takes a real man to cut one up,” as one of their t-shirt says. A couple of their statements were out in the snow covered parking lot on display: the ’32 Ford based “Euroliner” and the ’72 Jaguar XKE “FlatCat”. All of POSIES’ statements are built to be driven. In fact, the Euroliner was...
