Thanks to Autorama, MyRideisMe.com was able to attend the World of Wheels show, take a ton of pictures (coming soon, right Paul?) and give away 10 tickets to the show. A great deal for everyone. I'm going to save comments on the show for another blog. Right now, I just want to say how great it was to meet one of the guys who inspire me when building my cars, Jimmy Shine. If you think you're into the hot rod and custom bike scene, but you don't know Jimmy Shine, then maybe you ain't. If you want to know more, check out this bio (Click HERE) written by Pete Chapouris, President of the SO-CAL Speed Shop (and I guess Jimmy's boss). That bio must be kinda old though cause it doesn't mention the TV show Pete and Jimmy did for TLC called, "Hard Shine". That show's where I learned more about what Jimmy Shine's been up to and the way he builds. I saw a self made guy that's worked his ass off to get where he is now that's totally into the hobby. He's living the dream so...

FORD AND NHRA TEAM UP ON SAFETY
posted by pikesan
You'll never guess who's a new member at Ford's media site? MyRideisMe! We'll keep an eye on what's happening with the performance cars and racing action over at the Ford site and post it here so you won't have to look around. This first story hits close to home for me. When Eric Medlen died I had trouble watching drag racing. I've always liked John Force so I cheered for his teammates as well. Eric just seemed like a good guy from watching him in interviews too. That whole incident hit me hard. The John Force Racing team reaction was over the top. They've re-examined EVERYTHING about safety in their funny cars and is doing the right thing by sharing all of the data with the NHRA and the other racing teams. The latest step is illustrated in this story from Ford Media. At Force's request (I'll bet) Ford's doing the in depth engineering study needed to make sure these 7000 HP monsters are as safe as they can be. Great work guys! Donahoe Racing in Trouble?
posted by pikesan
What started as a few Off road drivers posting concerns about service on their Donahoe Racing products allegedly is a much bigger story! A friend of mine showed me this post from Dezertrangers.com: POST LINK A forum member named DJSSniper posted the Riverside, California District Court notes from Monday, 12/17/2007 for the Honorable Stephen G. Larzon. Here's that link: Link to court notes If you scroll down to item #20 you'll see the notes for: USA vs. William Kreag Donahoe for two counts: 1) Distribution of Child Pornography and 2) Possession of Child Pornography W-W-W-What? Child Porn? Speculation at the forums then indicated that Donahoe Racing had closed it doors, however, I found a few posts that appear to be from current Donahoe Employees that say they are only restructuring. Here's the post from http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/ from DRDylan who is shown as Dylan Evans, an R&D Engineer at Donahoe Racing: POST DRDylan then posts again and a reply is made by a person who is shown as Mike Crosby, the National Sales Manager for Donahoe Racing. That post was found at http://www.ttora.com : POST Is it him? Nobody wants to...

Home-built Header finish-ATF!
posted by pikesan
Just to wrap up the header I built for my car (Pikesan's garage) I thought I'd post a few pics and the video of the car running.. you can hear what it sounds like! I build the header with help from Schoenfeld Headers and my friends at Nissan with the TIG welding skills. When I finally got it assembled, the next question was what do to for a coating? I media blasted the header and it was a shining clean silver color that looked really cool but I knew it wouldn't last. So I took the advice I got from Schoenfeld and used ATF, yea, Automatic Transmission Fluid! I'd never heard of that, but they said it would turn the header a really cool BLUE color. Hmmm... Here's how everything turned out. Here's the header I had on it before... I tried to paint this one red... I didn't do a very good job and it turned black then white, quickly until it looked like this (Click on any image to see it full size): Here's the 1st video of me running the car for the first time with...

Motorcycle Jump World Record
posted by pikesan
Robbie Maddison set a new world record by jumping his motorcycle 322 feet at the Rio in Las Vegas last night. Apparently, he did a 350 foot jump in practice. To put this in perspective, Evel Knievel crashed jumping the short way across the Caesar's Palace fountain with his heavy old Harley. Exactly 40 years later, Maddison probably would have cleared that same fountain going the long way!!! Check out the video at ESPN:...
Great Nissan GTR Article

I can't stand it... had to share this story from Edmunds.com with everyone!! Here's the letter I wrote to the editor to go with it: Hello, Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the GTR article: Godzilla Takes on the 480-hp Yardstick I already have a biased enthusiasm since I work at Nissan as a Powertrain performance Engineer (trucks, not rockets) but your article had my ass gripping the seat flying down the autobahn at 150+. The Scoop on Squeeg’s Kustom
posted by pikesan
Welcome to Squeeg's Kustom out of Mesa, Arizona. The shop that started doing custom paint back in 1964 now has about 18 (or more!) giant projects going on right now. I met with Doug Jerger down at the shop so I could see what they're up to and follow up on the pictures I took of their new roadster. Doug gave me the grand tour and introduced me to his crew. I hope you aren't misconceived by the American Hot Rod show with Boyd Coddington... not all custom, high-end builders are miserable asses that treat their crew like crap. To the contrary, Doug gives all credit to his crew and reminded me more than once that it's the SHOP that turns out the great work. Doug quickly stepped into the background more than once. It seems to me, the team attitude and hard work are just the way things are done at Squeeg's. Doug explained how he bills by the hour and keeps meticulous records of what's been done. He also NEVER takes a deposit, so there's never the Unique Performance-style risk that's left a few rich suckers pissed...
Dad’s Old Dodge – 1965 Dodge D200
posted by pikesan
Custom 1965 Dodge D200 Truck at Goodguys This blog is well over due, but oh well. I need help writing these things, so if you're a struggling writer or just a car/bike freak with some extra time, why not give this a try? So here's Mike and Luz Wilson's 1965 Dodge D200. I met Mike at the Scottsdale Goodguys show when the sun was setting. I caught a couple good photos that I wanted to share. This truck is ultra clean and straight as an arrow and these pictures show it. Who's ever even seen one of these? Mike told me that the military and forest service were the ones buying up these trucks for a tough life, so the haven't survived well. Mike worked at Norman King Dodge back in '65 and since his pops needed a truck, the deal was made. I could have been Mike's plan all along to get the truck, but he had to wait 30 years before his dad was ready to let it go. Here's another D200: ICON 1965 D200 Crew Cab at SEMA 2012 The engine is a late model Hemi...
Boatman’s Best CARtoons
posted by pikesan
When you're a new website, the only advertising you can afford is FREE advertising. So, I am combing Myspace for other gearheads who might be interested in sharing their passions here at MyRideisMe.com. After navigating past all the, "Click here for my REAL profile..." and all the other scam BS, I found some worthwhile profiles, especially this one from Fred Boatman. From 1962 to 1976 Fred published his car art in several Petersen Publishing magazines, especially one I remember called CARtoons. After a few emails, Fred and I talked on the phone and I learned more about the man and his book: Cartoons on Wheels. Fred's book explains why he wrote the book for his four grown kids: I would like them to know just what I was doing in my basement studio those evenings I wasn't helping them with their homework, or playing hockey with them in the driveway. I wasn't just down there nursing a Wild Turkey and Ginger,... well maybe just a few. I've enjoyed reading the book Fred sent to me. It's like a time capsule of hot rodding and American history. The characters such...
