Bonneville Hot Rods Yearly Car Show: 2009 Bonneville Nugget Casino Car Show Picture Gallery is now online! After the Salt closes on the first Friday and Saturday of Speedweek, hot rods, street rods, a street-driven belly tanker and any ride that made the trip to Bonneville congregate to relax at the Golden Nugget Casino parking lot. This is not your typical car show, these cars are driven hours and hours to make this show. There were numerous cars from California and as far as Nebraska. (any farther?) 1933 Ford Pickup Gets Salty at Speedweek 2009

Bonneville Salt Flats Hot Rod: One piece of the Bonneville Speedweek recipe that can't be forgetten is the get together on Friday and Saturday night at the Golden Nugget in Wendover. From a Salt insider, the Nugget Car Show is not an official car show. You won't find any websites announcing the Car Show, but it just sort of happens. It has become a tradition. Enter Jerry Armijo and his 1933 Ford Pick up hot rod. As I was strolling the Nugget parking lot soaking in the hot rods, I saw this pick up full of Salt. It was not the only hot rod with salt covering it, but it appeared to be the rod with the most. One of my favorite parts of the Bonneville Salt Flats is how the salt gets everywhere. These open wheeled hot rods are especially good at flinging the salt. I started snapping pictures of this rod and how the salt was basically covering the windshield when I met Jerry, the proud owner. Here's what I found out about this cool ride. It's a 1933 Ford Pick up. When...
Bonneville Veteran Dies at Speed Week

Bonneville Salt Flats Tragedy: With all the excitement about Bonneville Speed Week, before I post my first blog and pictures, I want to show my respect following the tragic death of a great family man and land speed racer, Barry Bryant. Unfortunately, I only knew of Barry Bryant of Anderson, California by his race car. I told some friends about a sinister looking, long and bad, silver and black competition coupe that stood out as one of my favorites on the salt. After describing the car as best I could, I learned it was the Bryant family's "Tom Thumb Special" Late in the afternoon of 8/9/2009, Barry Bryant crashed near the 5 mile marker on the long course at Bonneville traveling close to 200 mph. MyRideisMe.com would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Barry Bryant. If you knew Barry, please leave a...
Bonneville Speed Week: The Details #1
posted by Hechtspeed
So, this blog from Bonneville is dedicated to the little details found on the Salt. Devil's in the details right? Here's proof. First is this License plate on a beautiful yellow hot rod pickup. "Bean Bandit" car club from San Diego. Here you see the CRX from Hondata sporting a thermal wrapped exhaust and the bracing for undercar sheeting to smooth airflow and provide suction to the road as this CRX with K20A naturally aspirated power runs 190's. Here the same CRX sports roof vanes for stability at 200mph in a car that probably had a top speed of 115mph. I saw this painted on "For Sale" sign and chuckled out loud. It says "4 Sale, low mileage! one careful owner!". Ya right! This was on the removable skin of a racecar. "Bonneville or Bust"! That is one of the motto's for both racers and spectators alike. It should read Bonneville AND Bust. The veterans say you go to Bonneville to break something. It's either a Record or your racecar. ...

Speedweek 2009-Bonnie’s Homecoming
posted by Hechtspeed
Bonneville Salt Flats: Welcome Home Bonnie! I think its only fitting that the first pic from Speedweek 2009 that we post is of our fearless leader, pikesan. I'll let pikesan post most of the pics of his car "Bonnie" and her homecoming to the Salt Flats but, I took this cool rolling shot Saturday morning and wanted to share it with you all. This was taken about 30 seconds after Bonnie and pikesan (suffering from a sever case of Salt Fever) made it onto the Salt for the first time. What a cool moment! I switched to shutter priority mode on the D90 and started snapping pics while trying to drive (luckily the entry road is super wide). This shot inspires me to build my own roadster. Well, that's it for now. The MyRideisMe.com crew that made it out to the Salt (we missed you Swanee) for Speedweek 2009 will be sharing stories and a sizeable photo gallery. It was also the first time pikesan, GreaseGirl and Hechtspeed met in person. We had a great time and can't wait to share our experiences! Ok, this pic is just too good (imho)...
Speedweek Push Vehicle: Blown Cherry Red Caddy

Bonneville Salt Flats Perfect Pusher: As part of the crew at MyRideisMe.com leaves for the Salt today and I leave tomorrow, we can almost taste it, the Salt that is. Here's a quick picture of one of the many push vehicles you'll see at Bonneville. But, granted, this is not your typical pusher. Most of the time you'll see trucks and big sedans giving their racecars a push start. This blown Caddy Coupe takes the Push Vehicle to a whole new level and is definitely showing off, and everyone loved it! This hot rod gets its pushing duties done in style. 1 more day and a wake up until we get out on the white stuff. Can't wait. Did I say I was...

Volk Bros’ 1929 Salt Flats Record Roadster

"I wanted out of that run so bad I unhooked the harness and was driving about 125 mph sitting on top of the roll cage, steering with my feet." If you found this story at MyRideisMe.com, you already know that Bonneville International Speedway and Salt Flats Land Speed Racing have quite a history. That history is filled with amazing pioneers in hot rodding, racing, and humans just plain going fast! The previous story from the Salt Flat Racing category: Salt Flats Car Show, the Bonneville Salt Flats are seriously the mecca for hot rodders and custom car nuts. This 1929 roadster typifies; race car and family history of Salt Flat and Land Speed Racing you're sure to find with every trip to the Salt. The owner Larry Volk, together with his family of Land Speed Racers have their own Salt Flats racing history. The Volk Family was kind enough to loan me their racing scrapbook full of newspaper clippings and photos so I could scan a few to share that rich history here at MyRideisMe.com. The recent pics you see were snapped this last Saturday at a church parking...
2008 Speed Week-“Car Show” on the Salt
posted by Hechtspeed
Bonneville Salt Flats: 2008's Pictures: I'm a little intimidated to tackle a story that even has the words: Salt Flats, Bonneville, and Speed Week included. The 2008 Speed Week day-trip I made last year was only my second time on the salt in Bonneville, the "Fastest Place On Earth" as the Bonneville Speed Week website declares. I wanted to share a few words and pictures from that day. I made the 1.5 hour drive out to Bonneville International Raceway with my good'ol 1959 JC Higgins rat rod cruiser pedal bike. The Bonneville salt-essentials strapped on the rear rack: bottles of water, sunflower seeds, sunblock and the old point and shoot camera. You need a bike just to get around the pit area. Why you ask? The pit area is 3 miles long and about 2 miles from the starting line!!! I spent most of my time near the starting line and in the pits soaking in sun, salt and of course the coolest "Car Show/Cruise-In" ever! OK, so there's no official car show, but that's what I call it. There are a few hundred old roadsters, coupes, muscle cars,...
Beach Hop’s 24 Hour Hot Rod Build

I got in touch with Noddy Watts the man behind "Beach Hop" New Zealand's #1 Nostalgia festival. I'm saving my pennies (ok, quarters!) to attend this show. He're what Noddy had to say about it: "New Zealand is a small country with just 4 million people at the bottom of the South Pacific. Is Hot Rodding known in this island paradise? Hell yeah! One of New Zealand's biggest Festivals just happens to be the "Beach Hop" - celebration of the 50s & 60s. Over 100,000 people attend the free 5 day event - that is 2.5% of the entire population! A highlight is the 1300+ entered Hot Rods and Classic Cars that take over the town for the week with non stop cruising and car shows - amongst stunning South Pacific coastal scenery - blue seas and white sands. Take a look at www.beachhop.co.nz Held in the popular seaside holiday resort of Whangamata, the fun never stops with music, kulture, fashion, more music, hot rods, motorbikes, dancing, dragsters, scooters of this golden era. With 100,000 people attending, this is one of the largest events of its kind in the...
