Drawing Cars with My Buddy Joel This blog post is a long time coming. We at MyRideisMe have shown off a number of talented hot rod artists. Joel Nelson of 1320 Designs is most definitely on that list. I mean, just dig these drawings below. Asking Joel how he got into drawing cars, he said: I got into drawing cars from watching The Dukes of Hazzard on prime time and Smokey and the Bandit. Thankfully CarTOONS was in full circulation too and that really put me over the edge! Then during the late 80's and early 90's, I really got into drawing Pro Street cars. Nothing was safe from becoming "pro street-ed". You could make anything look nasty by dropping it and adding a set of big 'n' littles! I like to work with markers and pastels mostly but have been known to do hand painted work in Photoshop too. Nothing beats pencil and paper though! This first one is Joel's latest and is our own Pikesan's 1961 AMC Rambler Wagon gasser concept drawing. You'll be seeing more of this concept from Joel in the future as he fine tunes...
1955 Chevy Gasser spotted at Lowes Parking Lot

So, February in Utah isn't a great time to bust out the street driven Gasser, you'd think, but the owner of this '55 Gasser called "Hemi Hunter" gets a big high 5 for doing just that. Of course, it is the warmest day since November 22, it was a balmy 46. Ha ha I've got no info except for the pics I took. But its a gorgeous example of an early 60's Gasser built to run on the street. This car was immaculate! Cherry black paint, all the correct Gasser mods, like radiused rear fender, bumperless, big long tube headers, no front fender wells to block the headers and straight front axle. Those keystone mags set the car off nicely as well. Rad!!! "Hemi Hunter" is right, that's what a 502ci big block will get ya. Love the gold lettering. Period correct and Rad! Super clean, that's the word that comes to mind. I dig the scoop sittin' under the vette hood bulge. That paint is reflecting everything. Wow! Dig that vette hood bulge/scoop and big street meats in the rear! I dig the white steering wheel and white...
66 Super Sport Gasser in Pink (yea, pink!)

Hot Rod Chevy Gasser It takes all kinds, we know that, but you gotta like the gasser style from the 60's. Straight axle jacked up in the front with a slight lift in the back too. It's an attitude. It says, "I'm fast and I was built to run." So stumbling along at the Goodguys Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, enjoying the sun and the 3000+ cars, I found one that stopped me in my tracks. It's a gasser alright, but it was pink. Pink! Not that goofy Mary K pink or some faded, pale pretty in pink, this was HOT pink and it was glowing in the Arizona sun. People walking by kept turning their heads sideways. Delirium? I gotta get a story about this car. Questions poured out when I finally had a chance to meet Bob Starks of Weatherford, TX. The story Bob told about his car epitomizes, "My Ride is Me." After buying a 1966 Chevy II Super Sport new, then selling it to buy a house, Bob has painstakingly remade his car. (Check out the pictures of the original car at the bottom of this...
