Tunerwars, Hot Rods and Classic Cars at Motorama If it has wheels and a motor you could probably have found it at the 2011 Motorama Events last weekend at the PA Farm Expo Complex in Harrisburg, PA. The 2011 Motorama isn’t a single show but many shows to entertain you. Three car shows (Tunerwars, Hot Rods and Classics, and the Speed Show) were going on at the same time. Over in the 7000 seat Autocross area there was four wheel and two wheel action all weekend. There was also a large gathering of go-karters and quarter midget racers competing for top prizes on different tracks. If you like remote control racing then you should have been here. Multiple HUGE tracks allowed for RC Nitro, 1/8th scale Electrics, RC Electrics, RC Rock Crawling, and even remote control Drifting! Maybe you like to watch things beat the snot out of each other? Then you should have been over in the Robot Conflict area. There were also less violent activities including the Miss Motorama Pageant, Bands, and carnival games. After 61 years the Sacramento Autorama is one of the longest running indoor shows and with 450 custom cars, hot rods and specialty rides of all kinds covering Cal Expo's buildings and fairgrounds. The Sacramento Autorama started back in 1950, when Sacramento businessman Harold "Baggy" Bagdasarian and his car club, the Capitol City Auto Club Thunderbolts, Baggy convinced club members to, "Settle friendly arguments over the outstanding merits of their personal customized cars." This according to the show's current host, Rodshows.com, the same folks who bring you the Grand National Roadster Show. 2011 Grand National Roadster Show - For the First Time Ring-ring~ Friday night: A text message pops up on my beat up iphone and to my surprise, its Pikesan from MyRideisMe.com. It turns out that he's currently in California to cover the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona for the weekend! How to Win the America's Most Beautiful Roadster Award In case you haven't already heard, the 1934 Ford Roadster owned by Daryl Wolfswinkel's and built by Doug Jerger and crew at Squeeg's Kustoms in Chandler, AZ won the highly coveted "AMBR Award" or America's Most Beautiful Roadster Award. Those of you who've seen the story posted here at MyRideisMe.com about the 2008-2010 AMBR winners are SHOCKED! (but maybe tickled too!!) Disagree? Hot Rods and Custom Cars at 2011 GNRS in Pomona, CA Day 2 of the "Grand-daddy of them all" the 2011 Grand National Roadster Show is done. This post shows just a few of my favorite shots from the show and gives a cross-section of the extremely wide array of custom rides. Above is the Hinkles Hot Rods amazing show truck. The gold paint lit up the main hall! Sticking with hot rod pickups, my friend Jim from the Throttle Kings completely transformed his truck! Last time I saw it, it wore suede paint and a pinstriped spade that covered the entire door. Now, shiny paint and a bunch more chrome later, Jim's inside the Grand National Roadster Show's Suede Palace. This early hemi powered 1926 bodied pickup struck a menacing stance. Everything about this hot rod says fast. The show card read like a history book of speed starting with drag racing from 1958 to 1961 at famed tracks like Bakersfiled, Lions, Pomona, Fontana and San Gabe. Hot Rods and Custom Car Show in Maryland The 2010 East Coast Indoor Nationals brought together many fine hot rods, customs, classics, and nostalgia dragsters. Almost 300 rides gathered at the Cow Palace show building in Timonium, Maryland over the weekend to compete for $7000 in awards. This invitation only, Pre-1973, All American car show boasts being the largest of its kind east of the Mississippi and it just might be! David Cohen, the event promoter, always assembles a great collection of vehicles to gawk at while helping to raise money for Toys for Tots. The show sponsor, Condon & Skelly, was also on hand to answer questions about insurance and to provide quotes. Over in the nostalgia drag section, Butch and Linda Szollosy’s 1957 Chevy 210 Sedan instantly caught my eye. The car runs in the Nostalgia Stock Eliminator class with a 283 and a 4 speed followed up by a 5.38 rear. How about something a little different?
