The latest Internet Barn Find is for those land speed racing Salt (or dust) Fever infected bunch. I bring you DLRA.org.au, the Dry Lakes Racers Australia site. The Dry Lakes Racers Australia held it's first Speed Trials meet in March 1990 and has been doing so (weather permitting) ever since. It has attracted competitors from all over Australia, the United States of America, New Zealand and the UK. Currently they only race once per year, but that could change in 2011. The racing happens on Lake Gairdner (well, it used to be a lake). It's an 8 mile track including the shut down area. The bummer part is it takes 80 miles driving on dirt roads to get to the race track (compared to Bonneville's 1 mile from "Lands End"). Just like at Bonneville, the site admin told me that if you stand around too long, you'll likely get put to work. Here's a fendered (smart move with 80 miles of dust) hot rod roadster heading out to Lake Gairdner for Salt Flats Racing. 80 miles of dirt roads is no joke and not for the faint of hot rod heart. There...
Complete Corvette – 1950’s to 2000
posted by pikesan
Reaching out to be friends or at least friendly with other car sites, I met up with Alex at "Road and Track" magazine online. Oh, you've heard of them? Alex told me about a "Corvette Chronology" piece they'd compiled and thought it'd be great for the readers at MyRideisMe.com. "I'll take a look." I have to admit. I didn't look very hard. Some time later, I finally went back and realized there was so much info about the Corvette, I missed most of it just for being in a hurry. There's a ton to see and it's laid out in a clean, easy to follow format when you take the time to look closely. The coverage starts from the 50's, but I skipped right to my favorite years, the 1960's. (I mean, it's hard to imagine a 'vette with a six cylinder, so that throws out the first two years!) Clicking on the link that says, "1960's" you're taken to a page with the picture above. There's a brief description that says: The Sixties was a decade of rocketships — both NASA's thundering moon machines, and the rubber-burning road...
“Internet Barn Find #11”: Sandy’s Soda Can Hot Rod Masterpiece...
posted by Hechtspeed
This is probably the coolest Barn Find to date. I'm not gonna talk much on this one, because it will take up too much space where pictures should be. Please check out this website. Looks like each car can be purchased for $2000. Heck, if you're crazy enough, you can purchase his drafting plans for $10/ea to build your own. Good luck though, because you're going to need serious craftsmanship to build it. Here's the website: Sandy's Can Cars You'll be blown away, I was!...
“Internet Barn Find #10”: Burkland’s 400 MPH Streamliner
posted by Hechtspeed
Bonneville Salt Flats Streamliner Dallas Volk, my Salt Flats insider, sent me this link. He is good friends with the Burkland family. I knew I needed to share their website with you all. This post does come with some sad news, that Gene Burkland has passed away this week. I mean this post to be in deep respect and a tribute to Gene and his family's great history at Bonneville. The Burkland Streamliner is a twin Donovan Chrysler powered, 4 wheel driven racecar that has gone over 400 mph. Please take a look at their website HERE as it is full of pictures and information, as well as links to other Land Racing websites and stories. This blazing fast Streamliner was designed and built by Gene and his son Tom Burkland. If that's not "My Ride is Me" I don't know what is...Here's a quick blurb from the site about the Burkland family: "Gene and Betty Burkland, from Great Falls, Montana (the first SCTA members from that state), have been active in racing, and at Bonneville in particular, for over three decades: their first Bonneville car was a chopped-top, Chrysler-powered '53 Studebaker...

Internet Barn Find #8: Japanese Cyber Evo in the Wind Tunnel
posted by Hechtspeed
Ok, one of my dream cars would have to be the Mitsubishi Evolution. The example in this video, The SunCyber Evo, is going after the 1 lap record at Tsukuba, home of Time Attack! Why do I share this video with you? A few reasons, but one is a look at how the Japanese car builders and tuners do it up right. They are serious techies! This is a purpose built car, but it does not compete in a race series. It competes in Time Attack competitions, also called Lap Battles. Most of these aero, suspension and engine parts can be bought off the shelf. The Tsukuba track is for Japanese car nuts the top track in the world, right next to the Nurburgring in Germany. Time Attack has started to catch on in the US and Europe in the last 2-3 years. But, the Japanese are tops when taking a street car and making it go fast for 1 lap. Enjoy this video. A second video can be seen, a part #2, where the car hits the track! You can get a glimpse into the Japanese tuning world. ...
Internet “Barn Find” #7: Andy’s Pinstriping
posted by Hechtspeed
During one of my daily classifieds searches, I happened upon a really cool vintage toolbox for sale that was pinstriped. In the ad was a pinstripers blog, Andy's Pinstriping. Of course I had to check it out (and so should you) and that's when I knew we had to feature Andy's work at MyRideisMe.com and add his work to our Pinstriping Gallery. So take a look at Andy's work and read below a little background info on how he got started. Believe it or not, Andy's relatively new to pinstriping, but you wouldn't know it by looking at his lines. Go ahead and see what Andy has to say about pinstriping and get ready to be inspired. MyRideisMe: How did you get into pinstriping? Andy: I grew up around hot rods and custom cars, and have always had an artistic streak inside me; I got into painting cars while I was in high school, and I took a 2 year college course in Auto Body & Paint. I have never had any formal training in pinstriping, but I have always respected it as a nearly lost art form, and I...
Internet “Barn Find” #6: British Steam Car Challenge
posted by Hechtspeed
Speedweek begins this week (7 days and counting). For this Internet Barn Find, we go across the pond to scope out a Steam Powered Streamliner. Check out British Steam Car Challenge website. Take a few minutes and read up on this beauty of a racecar. The record for a steam powered land vehicle stands at 127.659 MPH according to this site. The crazy part is this record was set in 1906. It's about time this record gets beaten, don't you think? Another tid bit of information from the steam car's website is the unofficial (not recognized by FIA) steam powered record is 145.607 MPH set in 1985, and that is the record the British Team is shooting for. Check out this youtube video linked from their site too. Sounds crazy!!! ...

“Internet Barn Find” #4: Rare American Made Cars
posted by Hechtspeed
So, I was "stumbling" around on StumbleUpon, a cool search tool/website where you can tell it what you're interested in and just hit the stumble button. I stumbled upon "Rare American Made Autos" page. Here's a quick quote from the website that explains what the Red Scarf Club is. Of all places to find cool pictures of rare American cars, an artilleryman's website!? Car Nuts are everywhere! "The RED SCARF name comes from the color of the artilleryman's parade neck scarves. (ie; The infantry color is blue, the engineers - green, the artillery - red, and so on. Each section of the army, has its own designated color.) Our present day club was loosley formed by a small group of 553rd FA Bn veterans, their wives, friends and familys, to get together once or twice a year in Branson, Missouri for a "Dinner and a Show", and share old "War Stories" - as we call them - and each others company, for a couple of days." Here's some teaser pics...if you can name any one of these cars, well...you're just sick! ha ha Try out StumbleUpon and tells us...
“Internet Barn Finds #3”: 70’s Funny Cars
posted by Hechtspeed
For #3, MyRideisMe.com went in search of Nostalgia Funny Cars. We scored a great find when we discovered the www.70sfunnycars.com website in our internet search. The website itself is vintage too, as it was established in 1998...was the internet even around back then? Ha Ha "Remember when Funny Cars actually resembled their street driven cousins? Real Funny Cars, and not show cars, actually appeared at car shows? Funny Cars had names, showed up to the races on open ramp trucks, and used tow cars often supplied by spectators after the crowd was pulsed by the track announcer for "volunteers?" This Vintage Funny Car website has many hidden jewels and is sure to bring back memories! You'll need a couple hours to soak in all this 'Nostalgia'. We'll launch into more in the future from 70sFunnyCars.com...we've only just gone through the waterbox and started our 1st burnout (..."Remember when Funny Cars would do 5 burnouts")! “Internet Barn Finds” #2: ’33 Willys Gasser Tribute
posted by Hechtspeed
"The Gasser Tribute Car was built as a tribute to all the drivers, owners and fans that loved these kinds of cars. It is probably one of the last A Gas Supercharged Olds powered Willys coupes left in the country." Del Wiesner The Dean Seevers, Del Wiesner and Harold Owens '33 Willy's Olds-powered A-Gas Supercharged Gasser original reigned from Loveland, Colorado and ran at dragstrips across the country from 1962-1966. These 3 Loveland High School grads and car nuts started the first car club in town, the "Loveland Zephyrs" and soon after began racing the Willys. One highlight for the 3 friends was holding the American Hot Rod Association National Record in 1964 with a 10.00 seconds at 146.86 mph run. The crew raced some of the top names of the day and were very competitive. Del says after working 40 years with his businesses, he never forgot the impact that car had on him. "Once you get that in your blood, it's hard to let it go. It was the most exciting time of my life, so I decided to rebuild a part of history." Do yourself a...
