SEMA 2010’s Ugliest Rim – Custom Wheels Rolling Craps
Custom Car Wheel Review at SEMA Show 2010
In my search with pikesan for the biggest custom rims at SEMA 2010, I was struck with horror by the ugliness of some of these wheels. Did something go wrong in the design department? How did so much money go into making such an awful rim?! In Las Vegas terms, these wheels rolled crap dice!
Splatter paint? That fad was SO third grade.
If it were only one color it would look like a gaudy daisy… perfect for a decked out VW. But four colors?
Enter: guy with large truck taking place for small ego. I like stars too… but they shouldn’t be on your rim dude.
These may be custom but that doesn’t mean they’re good looking. We had a general dislike for this uber-ugly Challenger. (At least it didn’t have any LED’s)
PINK! On the right car, these could look pretty cool – the thing is they’ll probably be showing up on a crappy Honda Civic near you.
I actually really liked these on this cool little VW. But again… coming soon to a Honda Civic near you.
Something about diesel and this much shine doesn’t go together… unless you drive a big rig with chrome “Haulin’ Ass” on the radiator grill.
This is beautiful filigree metal work. If I were cowboy-turned-oil-tycoon from Texas maybe I’d pimp out my new Bentley with them. Maybe. But just wait until I show you the car these wheels went on… train wreck. (Be looking for the article and pictures soon!)
Brand name? STATUS.
Status: the position of an individual in relation to another.
The only way in which these rims would change your status is by making you poorer.
And to show off the new status symbol in use. There’s just something wrong when the tire goes all the way to the hood… isn’t there?
Call me old-fashioned or mean – but these all just seem ridiculous. Does anyone else agree? Disagree? Let us know what you think!
Hey There Greasegirl,
Those wheels are quite obnoxious and most definitely UGLY to the power of 10 ! The “splatter paint” wheel is Gross. That sort of paint style was popular for trunk color, hidden away from the public. The artistic scribed wheel is interesting and can’t wait to see what vehicle wears them. I need a good laugh. I guess I’m old school ’cause I still love aluminum Halibrands and ET’s along with chromed Cragars and OE reversed steel rims. I also dig rims with lots of rivets happening. Thanks for the coverage sweetie, later… Jameswaterwolf
I disagree with a couple of your choices, persoanlly i really dig that blue truck with the wheels tucked allthe way up to the hood, i think that truck actually looks really good.
I dug the wheels on the VW as well.
I kinda like the truck too… Greasegirl, what’s up!?
Thanks for your opinion Ryan – The beauty about cars, is everyone can have their own taste.
I too liked the VW wheels…just not the thought of a junker of a ’94 Honda Civic rolling around my hood with them (a scenario seen way too often where I live!)
The truck…well, I can see how someone might think it looks clean…but I still think its silly!
I have a picture of the truck with the engraved rims (it’s about 3/4 of the way down the page)….

The engraving was gorgeous, but the rest left me dumbfounded.
I agree Liz! Thanks for sharing the picture :)
i personally think whoever let this guy right this needs to be fired… find someone that has a love for ALL CARS not just high end or whatever… yea those rims were what they were but make sure you keep your personal thoughts of certain cars to yourself… I drive a civic. own 2. neither of them have pink rims or oversized rims on them… ricers do that crap tuners have some taist… keep it true to the brand…
i may not spell correctly but i have respect for all cars… not to bash on a brand.
Tex, I’m the guy that let this GIRL write the story and I was with her scoping out these wheels too. I can’t help it if she doesn’t go for Civics… tell her her Studebaker is an old pile of junk then we’ll agree we have different tastes and move on! And if you don’t want opinion, read the Wall Street Journal or watch CNN. This is an automotive blog! Opinions are required!!
Your second car isn’t a PT Cruiser is it?
Tex-
No opinions!? Thanks for sharing yours. But I think I’ll continue to find humor in all the different automotive niches. I’ve got no beef against Civics – it’s just funny that so many drivers of them spend a buttload of money on expensive rims which are merely for look and do nothing else to upgrade their car!
yea me and my girlfriend laugh at the ricers… no i dont have a pt cruiser as my other car… both are CIVICS…i like my 41 miles to the gallon with both cars.
The pink wheels are way expensive for a honda civic
Black wheels are butt ugly!
